Dear Amma's Children,

Jai Karunamayi!

With Amma's Blessing we have committed to doing Narayana Seva (Annadana) every 4th Thursday of the month at the Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless (Pine Street Shelter in downtown Atlanta).

The next Narayana Seva (Annadana) is scheduled for February 28th (Thursday) at 6 PM.

As we did last time, we plan to serve each resident with a cup of hot soup, PBJ sandwich, chips, fruit, and bottle water.  We expect to feed 600 residents at the shelter this month.

All are welcome to participate in this service in any way you want and can.

Here are some options:

  • You can join the sandwich making satsang at RJ and Asha's home (2133 Rocky Falls Ct., Kennessaw 30152; Ph: 770-792-2222; E-mail: cleanrj@mycleaningteam.net), on Wednesday Feb 27th starting at 4 PM.
  • You can organize your own satsang in your area (if that is more convenient) to make some number of sandwiches (please let us know how many you plan to make and how you plan to hand it over to us).  We want to feed the residents at the shelter what we will feed our own children.  RJ suggests making a homogeneous mixture of the PB and Jelly before spreading them (liberally) on the bread to get a uniform consistency in all the sandwiches.  Each sandwich should be individually placed in a plastic sandwich bag.
  • You can come to the shelter and help out.  The shelter location: Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless, 477 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA 30308. It is best to get there by Marta since you will have to pay for parking in one of the nearby lots if you drive. Please plan on arriving at the shelter by 5:15 PM as there is a quite a bit of preparation (preparing 600 brown bags with sandwich, fruit, chips, napkin, and spoon plus other set up) prior to dinner service which will start promptly at 6 PM.  Please let us know if you are planning to come to the shelter on the day of the seva.
  • If you want to contribute monetarily towards the monthly feeding, please send a check made out to "SRIM Center" (no amount is too small, it only takes $2 per resident), and mail it to:

Dear Amma's children,

Jai Karunamayi!

Thursday January 24, Amma's group did the first Narayana Seva (Annadana) at the Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless (Pine street shelter in downtown Atlanta).

We served hot minestrone soup, PBJ sandwich, chips, orange, and water to nearly 600 residents at the shelter.  We had a picture of our beloved Amma prominently displayed, and Amma's melodious voice was chanting Mrutyunjaya Mantra throughout the service.  We went prepared to feed 700, so several of them came for seconds.  When the evening was done (around 6:45 PM) all the food was gone...They all appreciated the hot soup on a cold night more than anything else.  It was a humbling experience for all us (nearly a dozen) who went to serve the dinner to the residents. All of us felt a deep sense of satisfaction that this is a cause that Amma will very much want us to continue every month.  Our next service (at the same location) will be on Thursday February 28.

As you can imagine, pulling off such a mass dinner requires a lot of coordination.  Those who know him know that doing such a seva in the name of Amma comes naturally to RJ.  He is the main architect of this service.  His friends Paul and Fatima who run a catering service, made the soup (at no charge for their service and billing us just for the raw materials).  Not only did they make the soup for 700 people but they transported the soup in heat preserving containers to the shelter themselves ready to serve hot to the residents. Much thanks to them for their service.

And then there is the PBJ sandwich making. RJ and his wife Asha had a Satsang with dozen other of Amma's children in their home (Kennesaw) to make 500 sandwiches.  Asha Roberson (Stone Mountain) and Sujaya (Marietta) and their friends had Satsangs in their respective homes as well for making 100 sandwiches each.

David Riley transported 700 bags of chips to the shelter.  Janardana Dasa transported 700 oranges to the shelter.  Mandara and Robert transported 700 water bottles to the shelter.

And then there were many folks who contributed monetarily to help us finance the seva for this month.

And then at the shelter we had more than a dozen of Amma's children...working like Santa's elves (actually Amma's Hanumans!) to put all the cold food in brown bags starting at 5 PM.  So when the dining hall opened at 6 PM for the residents we were ready to hand each resident a cup of hot soup, brown bag filled with the other foods, and a water bottle.  The service went very smoothly because of the love and warmth with which all of Amma's children did this seva.

So it is team work from planning to execution and Amma's blessings that made it possible for us to pull this off.  A BIG THANK YOU to all of Amma's children who contributed to this service in their own special way. You can check out Amma's website to see the photos from our seva at: http://www.karunamayi.org/charities/Narayan-seva.shtml

We need Amma's continued blessing so we may be able to do this seva in Amma's name every month.

RJ has calculated that the cost for this service is roughly $2 per person.  If you would like to get involved in any way with this project please let RJ (cleanrj@mycleaningteam.net) and me know.  If you want to send a check towards the monthly feeding (no amount is too small, it only takes $2 per resident), please make it out to "SRIM Center" and mail it to:
