"When one chants the Srim bijakshara, the mind will be lit with the light of Lakshmi. There will be connections with divine people and with the heavenly abodes." ~ Amma ![]() ABOUT AMMA'S MISSION Latest News Charitable Hospital Free School Homes for the Poor SUPPORT AMMA'S MISSION Make a Donation Buy Spiritual Resources Sponsor a Puja Get Involved COMMUNITY Amma's Yahoo Group Online Satsang Local Satsangs UPCOMING PUJAS Diwali Lakshmi Homa Kartika Somavaras Kartika Purnima UPCOMING EVENTS India Meditation Retreat India Temple Tour | Welcome Lakshmi into Your Home this Diwali ![]() Amma joins in the Diwali festivities with some lit sparklers This year, the Hindu festival of Diwali, also known as Dipavali, falls on Oct 17. During this beautiful "Festival of Lights," Hindus around the world invite Mother Lakshmi into their homes by lighting wick lamps all around the home, welcoming guests, giving gifts of new clothes, and performing Lakshmi Puja. In another fun Diwali tradition, children love to light sparklers and firecrackers outside their homes. In cities all across India, one can see entire families out in the streets, laughing and enjoying the fun as children spin with sparklers and set off a multitude of popping firecrackers. This innocent laughter and joy itself signifies the presence of Mother Lakshmi. Amma has said that it's important for grown-ups to forget their worries and simply have fun with their kids, and Diwali provides a perfect time to do this. Diwali is an opportunity to set aside the stress of daily life and simply indulge in the innocent joys of childhood. Thus, Diwali serves to relieve stress and strengthen the bonds between families and friends. Our beloved Amma tells us that Mother Lakshmi resides in the sacred flame of a lit lamp, especially a lamp fueled by cow's ghee. Such a flame burns with a bright and auspicious energy, filling the atmosphere with positive, uplifting and purifying vibrations. Samputita Sri Suktam Invokes Mother Lakshmi's Divine Light Amma often recommends that we can chant Sri Suktam or Samputita Sri Suktam to invoke the most auspicious divine energy of Mother Lakshmi. Those who wish to invite Mother Lakshmi into their hearts and homes this Diwali can light a lamp, preferably with ghee, offer incense and fruits, and chant Samputita Sri Suktam. If possible, performing abhishekam to a Sri Chakra with milk will be very, very auspicious. If all this is not possible, simply chanting Samputita Sri Suktam or any Lakshmi mantra will also be very good. In Samputita Sri Suktam, the Rig Vediya Maha Lakshmi Mantra is repeated 16 times. In this mantra, which begins "Om srim hrim srim," the powerful "Srim" bijakshara is repeated four times. Amma has said that the Srim bijakshara attracts solar energy to the body to make one's mind and heart as bright as the sun. This sacred sound attracts the light of Lakshmi Devi, which then surrounds us and prevents negativity from entering our hearts or minds. On the mystical level, this sound helps to activate the divine kundalini energy and invokes the supreme light of highest spiritual consciousness.Amma's Lalita Temple, beautifully decorated with hundreds of dipas This Diwali, let us all pray to Mother Lakshmi to remove all the darkness from everyone's lives, and to fill all our hearts with the sparkling golden light of peace, love, truth, and spiritual joy. "O Mother, my heart is yearning for the day when your brilliant light will dawn in my mind in the form of brahmajnana sukham, the supreme bliss of highest consciousness!" ~ Sri Suktam Chanting Booklet Sri Sukta and Sri Dhana Lakshmi Homa will be Performed at Amma's Penusila Ashram In honor of Diwali, a powerful Sri Sukta and Sri Dhana Lakshmi Homa will be conducted at Amma's sacred Penusila Ashram. "Dhana" means wealth, so Dhana Lakshmi is the form of Mother who lovingly grants every kind of wealth. Amma teaches us that we all need wealth to live, to do sadhana, and to support our families as well as do good deeds. Wealth itself is not evil; only its improper or selfish use can be said to be evil. Wealth must always be in the service of dharma, to help humanity through service projects, through charitable donations, through feeding programs, or whatever is necessary to alleviate suffering. This itself is the greatest yajna, or homa. Sri Dhana Lakshmi's Blessings Bring Every Form of Wealth Amma delightedly accepts a lit sparkler from a young student The Dhana Lakshmi Homa will invoke the blessings of Mother Lakshmi for every kind of wealth, like financial wealth, or wealth of good health, wealth of peace and contentment, and wealth of sweet and positive relationships. This homa is being conducted for all of humanity as well as animals, birds, trees, and Mother Earth--everyone needs Mother Lakshmi's blessing! Sri Dhana Lakshmi Mata ki Jai! "My beloved Mother's supreme inner beauty and grace are indescribable. She is seated on a fully-blossomed thousand-petaled lotus, and rays of golden light are streaming from every pore of her body, which is the same delicate hue as the tender lotus petals. Her face is adorned with a gentle smile, and her tender heart is overflowing with an ocean of motherly love." ~ Sri Suktam Chanting Booklet Om Shantih Shantih Shantihi May there be peace everywhere Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu May all beings be happy | ||
