THE AGE OF DEVI CONSCIOUSNESS
“The mightiest force in the Cosmos is the silent power of Divine Mother’s pure and unconditional love”. Amma Sri Karunamayi
Amma Sri Karunamayi is expanding Her legacy to this world. Her endowment, a treasure-trove of gifts with perpetual benefits, is growing deeper roots and unfolding like a country without borders. What was once a benevolent act has now blossomed into The Devi Consciousness Movement.
In 2014 Amma’s ATI Rudram program at the SRIM Center broke with doctrine by allowing women to participate in Rudra homa fire ceremonies by making offerings with their own hands, a privilege historically reserved for men. While continuing to adhere to other Vedic traditions, Amma opened the door to a more inclusive environment with benefits shared equally.
Since 2015 Amma has been conducting the Sri Lalita Devi Maha Maha Yajnams every year to promote world peace, women’s empowerment and universal prosperity.
In 2018 Amma began calling Her world peace and women’s empowerment programs The Devi Consciousness Movement. Amma’s 2019 Chandi Saptashati homa will include an Ati Rudram, and will promote Ritvik participation by both women and men. Ritviks are learned chanters of the Sri Rudram and/or Sri Chandi Saptashati, a role traditionally reserved for men.

WHAT IS CHANDI SAPTASHATI

Devi Mahatmyam describes Goddess Lalitha Maha Tripura Sundari, the Divine Mother as Supreme Power and creator of universe. It is part of Markandeya Purana. It is also known as Durga Sapthashati or Chandi Path. The text has 700 verses arranged into 13 chapters which further divided into 3 charitas or episode viz… Prathama charita (Chapter 1), Madhyama Charita (chapter 2 – 4) and Uttara charita (chapter 5 – 13).
It describes the story between good and evil and how Goddess Durga destroys demons. This is also the only scripture from puranas, which is used to do Homa. Chanting Devi Mahatmyam will improve positive energy level in the environmental and eliminate undesirable elements.
WHAT IS ATI RUDRAM?
Sri Rudram hymn is an invocation to Lord Siva and consists of two parts, namely Namakam and Chamakam. Namakam sings the glory of Lord Siva and Chamakam requests the Lord to grant the devotee materialistic and spiritual grace so that he/she can elevate himself/herself and serve Lord’s creation in this universe. Each of Namakam and Chamakam consists of 11 chapters called “Anuvakams”. A total of 14,641 recitations of the Namakam are required for an Ati Rudram.

- Routine chanting of Sri Rudram is called “Roopam” and consists of chanting the Namakam once followed by chanting the Chamakam once.
- Eleven recitations of Namakam followed by one recitation of Chamakam are called “Ekadasa Rudram”.
- Eleven rounds of Ekadasa Rudram chanting constitute a “Laghu Rudram”.
- Eleven rounds of Laghu Rudram chanting constitutes a “Maha Rudram”
- Eleven rounds of MahaRudram chanting constitute an “Ati Rudram”
Total number of recitations of Namakam in Ati Rudram is 11 x 11 x 11 x 11 = 14,641

THE POWER OF ATI RUDRA MAHA YAJNAMS

At all Ati Rudram programs conducted in Amma’s Divine presence, Lord Shiva has unfailingly made His appearance in unique ways. At the Ati Rudram conducted by Amma’s devout father in India, when Amma was a little child, Lord Shiva came in the physical form of a human being and partook of the Maha Naivedyams. At the 2014 Ati Rudram in SRIM Center, the 5 faced Shiva Lingam opened His eyes during the abhishekam process, a wonderful moment captured by camera. At 2015 Ati Rudram program in Daksharamam, India, the Lord appeared as Light from the ceiling of the fully enclosed hall and entered the Shiva Lingam right in front of Amma as She was doing puja to the Lingam.
