Lord Shiva is well-known by the name of Rudra. It is one of the 108 names of Lord Shiva, meaning “tempest”. In Rudra form, Lord Shiva is fierce and is the destructor. He destroys evil and paves the path for new creation. Abhishek literally means “wetting” or “spraying”. It signifies the auspicious bathing of a deity. Rudra Abhishek implies the holy bath with water, milk, ghee, yogurt, honey and Panchamrit (The Panchamrit mixture comprises five elements namely, milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and jaggery).

Rudrabhishek invokes Lord Shiva by chanting hymns and offering special Pooja where Lord Rudra is worshiped in the form of lingam. Amma Sri Karunamayi extols the power of Rudrabhishekam and encourages devotees to include it in their sadhana, spiritual practices.
